Villa Marina, Douglas,
Isle of Man.

This contract involved the total refurbishment of one of the Isle of Man’s best known theatres on the main Douglas sea front.

The architect was keen to maintain much of the old theatre’s style and character and this was achieved by close duplication of the original joinery work.

The doors featured intricate mouldings and panelling effects which we were able to achieve using specially fabricated cutters, allowing us to match the original doors.

The door construction used allowed the original solid timber doors to be reproduced virtually identically to the originals, without the vast expense and potential instability of timber framed doors, coupled with the advantage of proven fire certification.

The door panels were fabricated using moulded MDF, set into the face of the door and held in position with hardwood decorative moulding.

The high density particleboard faced doors allowed us to supply doors ideally suited for painting without the need for any additional facing to the doors. This allowed the doors to be totally flat and free from grain “show through” greatly assisting the decorators on site.

In addition to the doors, we supplied a number of bespoke iroko hardwood screens and fanlights / overpanels matching the door design.

The careful packing and transport arrangements were of particular concern to us given the nature of the doors, and we were able to supply over 300 door leaves with no damage sustained.
