Fire Doorsets

Firedoorsets

A fire doorset comprises much more than the component parts. The door, frame, hinges, ironmongery, the glass in any vision panel and the seals must all be selected to ensure the door design is properly fire resistant and all the components must work when used in combination.

Components

A typical order for a doorset would include the provision of a 3 layer particle board as described in our Technical Manual, (please contact for further details) with a choice of facings including veneer, laminate or standard paintgrade finish. A wide range of glass is offered for vision panels from standard wired safety glass to clear safety glass, achieving fire rating requirements but also offering an aesthetically pleasing product.

Frame detail would include a variety of hardwood (often matched to the veneer), softwood or MDF. Styles of frames include stops, rebated, split and extension linings are available with standard sections being 32mm however in certain circumstances this can be reduced to 22mm and still provide fire certification.

Intumescent seals are provided for on site fitting. Once fitted these seals expand when reacting to heat providing a closed seal between the door and frame and leaves of pairs of doors. These can be provided in a range of finishes to suit individual products.

Vision panels, hinge and lock cut outs are all programmed using the latest sophisticated computerised technology on industry specific machinery.

Contracts where a larger number of doorsets are required usually have frames delivered in advance of the doors/overpanels. Due to individual components being programmed and machined on the CNC machinery, accurate fitting is achieved, provided installation is carried out in accordance with BWF Certifire Instructions.

Certification

European Door Sets is certified to supply and manufacture complete doorsets under the BWF Certifire Doorset Scheme, which is the leading representative for fire door manufacturers accounting for 90% of all fire doors sold in the UK.

Fire doorsets are tested against BS476 Part 22 or the new European Standard BSEN 1634-1, with European Door Sets being able to provide certification from FD30 to FD120 ensuring all applications are covered. Tests carried out against these standards will ensure that fire doors have met relevant Building Control requirements.

As manufacturers go through the extensive and committed process of having their doors and components rigorously tested in accordance with the latest standards, the installation procedure becomes evermore important to ensure that the fire door remains fully reliable.European Door Sets can provide details of companies that are certified under the BWF Approved Installer Scheme.
