BSF (Building Schools for the Future), is the biggest single government investment in improving school buildings for over 50 years. The aim is to rebuild or renew every secondary school in England over a 10-15 year period. With the Governments committed and continued investment in education, European doorsets are extensively involved with numerous architects and main contractors dealing with Building Schools for the Future at both design stage and production. Details of all projects past and present are available on request.
Servicing
European Door Sets has a number of CNC machines, allowing manufacturing techniques to work to tolerances of less than a millimetre. As previously mentioned all components are manufactured in house. The CNC
machines are utilised for a variety of complex tasks including;
• Cutting the door to size
• Edging the door in relevant hardwoods
• Calibrating / sanding the door
• Cutting out of the vision panel
• Recessing the hinges on both door & frame
• Morticing out for lock / latch, door closers
• Pre drilling to receive handles
• Pre drilling frames
• Grooving for Intumescent / seals (acoustic etc)
• Recessing the door face for kick / mid rail plates, fire identity discs
Mitred joints are digitally programmed on Hoffman machines which ensure a perfect mitre joint occurs on every
application for a variety of uses, including vision panels, pre mitred architrave, decorative beading etc (see
images above)
Derek Ferguson, Contracts Manager, said “using the latest computerised equipment allows us to program the
critical dimensions in a controlled office environment rather than on the factory floor, this has eliminated any
programming errors”
European Door Sets has achieved the highest grading available in the British Standard of Mechanical Tests for hinged or pivoted doors achieving severe duty: ‘subject to frequent violent usage’. Furthermore, tests have been carried out with good results to the new more stringent EU standard EN1634.
To ensure the maximum durability is achieved every doorset manufactured by European Door Sets is made to the highest grading and can be found in a variety of locations including:
• Schools / Colleges
• MOD buildings including Mess areas
and Living accommodation
• Office environments
• HTM / Healthcare applications
• Residential Developments,
apartments & houses
• Theatres / Cinemas
Healthcare
The Healthcare Technical Memorandum (HTM) series provide specification and design guidance on building
components for healthcare buildings, with HTM58 being applicable for Internal Doorsets. European Door Sets complies fully with the HTM58 guidelines.
Currently liaising closely with several hospital Works or Estate Departments, European Door Sets offers a
comprehensive range of services including advising on relevant specification, design guidance and
regular site meetings to ensure the high performance standards required of doorsets can be met accordingly.
With all doorsets being manufactured in our factory we are able to match existing doors that may well already be
on site to ease the visual impact of having to replace existing doors with new, please contact our Technical Department for further guidance.
Modular building
With the decrease in skill levels on site, Modular units or Pods as they are often referred to, are becoming increasingly popular within the industry. Recognising the benefits modular systems bring, European Door Sets has designed and developed a doorset that incorporates not only the required certification but
also one that is designed for a speedy installation and is readily transportable as often the Modular units or Pods have to be transported for a second time once they are beyond the control of the factory environment. Currently the modular doorsets can be found at a number of installations, the biggest of which is the Sir Robert McAlpine contract at Colchester Garrison.
Ironmongery
European Door Sets has for some time now operated an ironmongery division which concentrates on sourcing
competitively priced items direct. Neil Bailey, Sales Director said “Supplying involved, the contractor benefits in being able to obtain all items from one source at competitive rates, the site team benefits in having one point of contact, together with both items arriving on site simultaneously. This enables the ironmongery to be fitted as soon as the doorsets are hung, minimising the number of times our doorsets are handled and also lessens the chance of any materials going missing.” The majority of our components are obtained from a Swiss based company who manufacture the products to order. Over a period of time European Door Sets has worked closely with various suppliers to produce combined doorset / ironmongery packages to suit all applications, all of which are compliant with today’s relevant regulations, please see rear of brochure for further details.
